C-Zer’s DJ Academy

DJ C-Zer at the Club

So you want to be a DJ? Items you will need:

1) Mixing Board (Mixer). Hardware preferably, but you can use software.

Rev7 Controller – https://amzn.to/4xKSFZ2

or
Pioneer DJ DJM-S11 Professional Scratch Style 2-Channel DJ Mixer for Serato DJ Pro or Rekordboxhttps://amzn.to/4xKSFZ2

Pioneer DJ DJM-S11 two-channel DJ mixer shown from above, featuring a black body with colorful RGB performance pads, dual channel faders, a central crossfader, color display screen, and multiple knobs and buttons.

Technics SL 1200MK5 – This is how I originally learned to mix. I use 1200smk2 black  my studio but Controllers may be be the most cost affective way if you’re just getting started.

3) Serato Hardware (required to control software) – typically only for older mixers without Serato built in.

4) Headphones for cueing up songs. I like the Sony’s https://amzn.to/4qUmWSl

Sony MDR-7506 over-ear professional headphones in black, shown in three-quarter view. Features padded leather-like ear cups, braided headband, and a coiled cable ending in a gold-tipped 6.35mm plug. Label reads 'Sony Professional'.

5) Set of Speakers

If you’re just training, I would go with whatever powered speakers you can afford. You can find some new ones at guitar center and maybe some used ones on FB Marketplace / Offerup that fits your budget.

I prefer EV or QSC for professional sound.

EV’s – https://amzn.to/4i7m2j8

I personally use 2 x QSC K12.2 – https://amzn.to/4gXCBMm

XLR Cables to send audio signal from the Mixer / Controller to Speakers

Tripods for your speakers  – https://amzn.to/3T9dNca

Step 2

Make sure your Digital Music/MP3s are Tagged prior to working with them. The recommendation is 192kbps+ for MP3 compression bit rates.
